Hesai & BYD expand lidar deal for 2025 models.

Hesai Technology, a leading global provider of automotive lidar solutions, has announced an expanded collaboration with BYD, supplying lidar for more than 10 of BYD’s upcoming models. These models are slated to enter mass production in 2025.

In 2024, BYD surpassed domestic competitors by selling over 4 million vehicles equipped with intelligent driving technology. This week, the company revealed that all its models will feature "God’s Eye," BYD’s next-generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), designed to make ADAS capabilities widely accessible. Lidar will play a crucial role in two variants of the "God’s Eye" system, enhancing navigation on autopilot (NOA) for both city and highway driving.

China’s automotive lidar market continues its rapid expansion. According to Gasgoo, lidar-equipped vehicle installations exceeded 1.5 million units in 2024—more than doubling from 2023.

Hesai achieved a major milestone in December 2024, becoming the world’s first lidar company to deliver over 100,000 units in a single month. Looking ahead, Hesai’s annual production capacity is projected to exceed 2 million units in 2025, driven by its advanced manufacturing capabilities and research and development initiatives.

As of February 2025, Hesai has secured over 100 design wins across 22 automotive OEMs, including Chery, Great Wall Motors, and Changan. The company’s ATX lidar, introduced in April 2024, has been selected by multiple automakers—including top new energy vehicle manufacturers and major European and American joint ventures in China—for mass production models.

Hesai’s ATX lidar combines high performance with a compact design, enabling advanced assisted driving features. Mass production of the ATX is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with several manufacturers integrating it as a standard feature in their upcoming vehicles.
